Rafting & Kayaking

We are excited to announce that we now provide access to the Cosumnes River for rafting and kayaking. One of the main challenges with the run from the 49 bridge to Latrobe Rd has been the lack of access for a take-out. It is not possible to take out at Latrobe Rd due to private property and no parking signs along the road. However, we have a take-out available for use.

This section of the river runs from the 49 bridge to the Cosumnes River Ranch Campground. This unique stretch is a Class 4 section of whitewater that is runnable from 750-1750 CFS and then becomes Class 5 above 1750 CFS. The length of this section is approximately 5-6 miles and includes a 30-foot drop called Old N Grey that can be easily portaged on the river's right bank. To check the flow, please visit Dreamflows.com and use the gauge at Michigan Bar. The take-out for this section is located off Old Sacramento Rd.

The Cosumnes River is one of the last free-flowing rivers in the area, and its headwaters are located at 7000 feet. In low water years, the river may not reach runnable levels. However, this year, we are expecting to have runnable flows until the end of June.

We want to be fully transparent that our campground is small, with only 12 riverfront spots and 2 cabins. We do not have the staff to monitor access to the river, and it is a 3.5-mile drive from our gate to the campground. At this time, we are not offering day-use access to the river. However, people are welcome to come and camp with us, which in turn gives access to the river. Please note that we require everyone who stays with us to sign a waiver of liability release form, which is organized through the booking on Hipcamp.
